Learning how to remix a song or track is a great way to make your name as a producer and break into the music industry. On the Remix course we break down the essential tricks and techniques that producers use to transform a track. We'll examine some of the classic remixes and provide you with multi track stems so you can create your own. Week 1: History & Foundations

  • Analysis of "classic" remixes
  • Negotiating remix fees, royalties and remix swaps
  • Working to a deadline
  • Interviews with famous remixers/labels
  • Parts, stems and project files
  • Working out the tempo and musical key
  • Using Timestretch, Pitch Change and Flex Time

Week 2:  Beats & Music

  • Which of the supplied parts to use in your remix
  • What does the label want / expect from your remix?
  • Vocal Cutups
  • Creating Instruments from the parts
  • Musical Elements
  • Beats

Week 3: Production FX Workshop

  • Filter types and techniques (DJ style filter FX, Autofilter...)
  • Pitch Envelope tricks
  • Creating Uprisers, Downfillers etc
  • Glitch edits and effects
  • Assigning MIDI controllers
  • Creating dubbed out effects and live dub mixes

Week 4: Arrangement & Mixdown

  • Structuring your remix: Arrangement of classic remixes
  • Creating contrast. Using buildups and breakdowns
  • Creating a Re-edit
  • Mixing and Mastering: EQ, Limiting & Compression
  • Supplying the label: Exporting 24 bit source files, dithering explained.
