'Warping' samples in Logic (for edit's ala The Revenge)

Postby jamie_glasgow » Wed, 01 Dec 2010, 09:16

Hi All,

I'm looking to basically chop a funk/soul track up into 3-4 parts and arrange, set to a solid BPM. adding more drums and effects etc.

I managed to do it once with a demo copy of Ableton but I'm wondering if it can be done in Logic - I have Logic 8 Pro - but happy to upgrade to Logic 9 - for the Flex Time tool if that's easier.

Any pointers, or video's which might show me the process involved would much appreciated!

Hi Jamie,

PointBlank's Logic Beginners/Intermediate courses cover audio editing in detail - I've just finished 3 weeks of audio editing in Logic on the Beginners course and even with some prior experience editing audio I learned a lot. I highly recommend the courses.

To get the basics you could consider:

- Youtube (Do a search on Logic editing audio) - There's plenty of resources on there.
- Checkout PointBlanks Youtube channel - More resources and a taster of course content.

Hope this helps....

Andy

It can be done in Logic 8 but it's easier in 9. Ableton is great for the job too. The main thing is the varying tempo of a funk/soul track and adapting to that. You could do a cut and paste job on Logic 8 ignoring the grid and the transport tempo but it's likely it will get messy. You can use Logic 9's flextime to tighten stuff up but maybe this would spoil the groove.. so many issues involved.

I created over an hour's worth of videos all about the subject on the remix course here - http://www.pointblankonline.net/affiliate/idevaffiliate.php?id=103&url=9

I took the old Pleasure track 'Jammin with pleasure' (original below)

and turned it into this -

Every step of the re-edit was covered over the hour duration. The remix course covers working with Audio in great detail so out of all of the courses it might be the best one for you to go for. More info is here:
