Mr Wire Monster (Small but Growing) - The quintessential element of any set-up. I suppose that Wire Monsters are getting smaller now that DAW's are being used in place of separate units for Mixers, Compressors, Effects, Samplers etc.

I cant recommend a pair for £300 but I would say do invest in the best you can. You have great teachnology in your set up and the speakers are, for me, the most important. Its what you hear your tune on after all.

I have Adam A7s BTW :-)

I use these at Point Blank - http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/product/3 ... paign=base

For the price they are great and have a surprisingly good bottom end ;)

I've just finished setting up my new home studio and have updated my pictures.

I WAS going to go for the BX8as, until I heard them in the guitar center. The bass is a little bit loose on them, so I decided to go for the M-Audio Studiophile CX8s. A little more expensive, but definitely worth the difference. Extremely tight bass, very good hi and mids - big speakers but they are VERY good. But then again, it depends on what kind of music you want to create/listen to and what sounds good to YOU. You should go and try out different pairs of studio monitors before purchasing them, because as good as they may seem, they might not be the right type of monitors for you. A local guitar center usually let you try out monitors before buying them. See if they have the BX8as there and go try them out! You just might change your mind when you hear a variety of different studio monitors. Hope this helps.

Hey Daniel,

Simple Question. I'm in the market for purchasing a PC. Reason 5.0 and 1.5 is on the way. What would you recommend for a machine. I'm reviewing a i5 quad processor. I want both Reason and record to run simultaneously with out crashing issues or creativity limitations. I figure the i5 will handle most tasks I throw at it however and if the motherboard supports up to 16gb of ram I'm good to go with a fast hard drive as well. The local computer guy is interested in selling a machine with 4gb to start a 7200 1 TB drive and an intel quad core i5 that is within a "reasonable" price range. I already run Reason 3.0 on a XP machine with some limitations. This I feel is good enough and I can add more ram once I see if there are any memory issues. Maybe upgrade to 8gb or higher if needed. What would you recommend if you were on a budget?

Hey there Johngo,

I use an iMac i7 to run Logic and Reason 5/Record 1.5, however, i7 is really pushing the things over the top. You really don't need to go any higher than an i5 unless you run some massive pro tools setup in some professional studio, because i5 should be able to run music software very easily. I'd say that if you are on a budget, go for the i5 quad. The i5 should definitely be able to run both Reason and Record simultaneously with no problems, especially as you've got 4 cores working together. And you shouldn't really need to add more memory as 4GB should really be enough, if not more than enough to run Record and Reason. A fast hard drive is always good (7200 and 1TB is perfect) but if you are going to be working with a lot of audio and not much MIDI in record, best to double check the buffer/cache size of the hard drive just to be sure it can handle very fast transfer of audio data. Usually it is 8mb, which works perfectly fine, but if you want even faster read/write audio response, you can take it up to 32mb, but as you said, if you are on a budget then 8mb is fine and should work well with Record and Reason. But yes, the i5 seems like a good plan, and if I were you, I'd go for it. Definitely worth it. It is a very powerful processor and can handle Reason & Record very nicely with no limitations. Hope this helps and good luck!

Hey guys. Some tasty looking setups for sure!

I've just done a blog post on one of the PB blogs about some factors to consider when building your setup, with some advice for all those producers who are daunted by the shear amount of options to choose from.

check it out!

Wow seems I have a long way to go before my setup looks anything like what you guys have lol.

Slightly embarrassed he he!

Maybe a few pointers could be sent my way.....

M-Audio Delta (purchased years ago but still in nearly new condition) in a custom build Gigabyte MOBO, Intel i5 2500k Sandybridge (3.3GHz) running at 4.6GHz, 8GB RAMidge, SSD OS drive (60GB) and an average sized storage area of 4TB - Win7 Pro - Years gone by I have used Cubase but now switching to Ableton as it's.....prettier and much more......its preferred personally now anyway. Lastly but not least a decent enough (for now) MK-449C MIDI Kebo (again purchased some years ago). What can I say, I am now coming off the bench.....

The attached Soundcloud track further confirms.....I will be purchasing Dubstep lessons from PB very soon.....:D
