iRig MIX is a compact basic DJ mixer designed to work with their DJ Rig iOS app. It provides a bridge between the app’s touchscreen interface and an analogue unit complete with volume and cross faders, EQ pots, independent cues with headphone output, mic/instrument input, and stereo output. You can use other audio sources such as CD and mp3 players, and crucially it also has a input switch which splits input 1 into dual-mono meaning you can mix using just one iOS device. It is small and portable whilst maintaining excellent build quality that we have come to expect from IK Multimedia’s iRig range, and not feeling too cramped making it ideal for impromptu DJ sets on the move.
DJ Rig is a double-deck DJ mixing app for iPhone and iPad. You can select tunes directly from your itunes library with the ability to adjust tempo and automatic beatmatching (for those that way inclined!) It has sample-based pads plus a huge array of effects that are as good if not better than any we have seen on a mobile DJ app so far with a Kaoss Pad style control surface.
Overall the combination of iRig MIX and DJ Rig is perfect if you want all the tactile nob-twizling satisfaction of a traditional mixer and the brilliant touchscreen capabilities of the app’s interface.
