Point Blank’s comprehensive Music Business courses at our college in London and online aim to give students all the necessary tools to build a successful career.
By dispelling many preconceptions surrounding the current music business, we help our students get a better understanding on what they can expect when working in the music industry and encourage them to accomplish their goals.
Here are a few recent Music Business alumni who are currently taking the music industry by storm.
Marilia Feix – Music Business Certificate – 2012
Since completing the course Maria has gone on to work as an International Manager at Loop Reclame and is also a resident DJ at the largest Brazilian venue in London, Guanabara.
Marilia is also presenting and producing two radio shows: ‘This is England’ which is broadcast from London for Brazil’s Radio Elétrica and ‘Tropicalia’ at Bang Radio 103.6FM in London.
She says “I created a new business opportunity using my contacts in Brazil and in England. This venture involved signing a contract between a London record label called Ho Hum Records and a Brazilian music production company, Loop Reclame. It works by synchronising the label’s acts with Brazilian advertisements, movies, video games or/and websites. The entrepreneurial knowledge I learnt from the Music Business course at Point Blank gave me the skills to start this project”
Tom Green – Music Business Course – 2012
Tom went straight from finishing his course into an internship position for the indie record label, The Animal Farm and within months became their full time booking agent.
He says “The Music Business course at Point Blank set me up with what I needed to know to approach the industry in the right way. Without my tutor Doug Sturrock I would not be where I am now; on the way to having a stable job within the industry, being ridiculously busy and doing what I love everyday.”
James Vaux – Songwriting Certificate (with Music Business) – 2011
A few months ago we featured James Vaux’s story in a student success piece and this month we have an exciting update.
His new found music business knowledge along with the experience from a former career in the financial industries led to him being invited to present a keynote speech in Ibiza at last weeks IMS 2012 on ‘how EDM can learn from the financial sector’. He has also been working hard launching his own DJ management, publishing and record label business. We have a sneak peak of the first release from the label, Hailstorm Music. Check it out below:
James says “Joss Roupell who did the Music Business module with me is being a great help as my intern. So it just goes to show, there’s a lot more to Point Blank than just the courses!”
