Between May 26th – 28th Movement Festival will return to Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit – the city widely regarded as the birthplace of techno – and Point Blank is extremely excited to be right in the mix for 2012!
Since taking over curating responsibilities five years ago, Detroit-based electronic record label and booking agency Paxahau have led the festival from strength to strength pulling together consistently huge lineups with the support of local techno luminaries, Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May and Carl Craig.
This year’s festival lineup is no different, welcoming a true who’s who of the electronic music scene from all corners of the globe. A pick of our highlights include:
Disco flavours from Tiger and Woods, Todd Terje, and Greg Wilson; Techno vibes courtesy of Actress, Marcellus Pittman, Chris Liebing, Nina Kraviz and the aforementioned Detroit trio of Saunderson, May and Craig; House from MK, DJ Sneak, Kyle Hall, Loco Dice and Seth Troxler; Hard-to-pin-down acts who straddle multiple genres such as Jimmy Edgar, FaltyDL, araabMUZIK, dOP and Salva; And even a nod to the old school hip hop and drum & bass heads with Public Enemy and Roni Size. The depth of talented artists emanating from our home shores is also on show with UK artists including Bok Bok, Jesse Rose, Maya Jane Coles, Mr C, Subb-an and Hot Natured.

Point Blank Presents dirtybird ‘Hatched’ Tour @ City Club, May 26th
We have had an incredible time as the sponsors of dirtybird’s ‘Hatched’ World Tour and there is no letting up as it nears its conclusion. We will be hopping on board the 2012 Movement Weekend to make a very special stop at City Club, one of Detroit’s most storied venues.
Laying down the bass and beats for a serious after hours session is a stellar lineup from the crew: Claude VonStroke, Eats Everything, J.Phlip, Worthy, and Leroy Peppers (aka Christian Martin).
We will also be celebrating the launch of Justin Martin’s album, ‘Ghettos and Gardens’ – Much like the Motor City, Justin’s debut is both tender and tough, sliding between delicate melodic moments, gritty basslines and devastating drops. Just as Detroit’s musical history is rich and varied, Martin refuses to be pigeonholed on ‘Ghettos & Gardens’, slipping through house, Techno, funk and hip-hop.
