New Paid Internship Opportunities For Point Blank Students

This week we can announce a further development in our relationsip with the non-profit organisation SEO London who, together with Creative Access, would like to offer our students more amazing opportunities for paid internships at three fantastic companies.

A bit of background…

SEO London, through the Creative Access platform, is actively recruiting for 4 new internship positions in the Publishing and Music industries. The SEO-Creative Access partnership gives ethnic minority students an opportunity to access internships and graduate careers with leading firms across all of the major creative industries including Film, Advertising, Performing Arts, Publishing, Journalism, Music, TV and Radio.

The exciting opportunities include one 6-month Editorial-Assistant internship position at Harlequin (UK) Limited, two year-long Junior Creative Technician internship positions at One Media iP Ltd, a one year-long Assistant to the Heritage Curator internship position at EMI Group Archive Trust and a one-year-long A&R Administrator internship position at Best Before Records.

Best Before Records is a fast growing independent record label, with a roster of exciting artists/bands on their books including The Chapman Family, Mutiny on the Bounty, Sharks, and Johnny Foreigner.

Harlequin (UK) Ltd is the world’s most recognised publisher of romantic fiction. They publish romantic fiction under Mills & Boon, mainstream fiction under MIRA, and young adult fiction under the new MIRA Ink imprint.

One Media iP Ltd was established in 2005, and is a growing and profitable company focused on acquiring audio and visual nostalgic content and exploiting it through digital stores and services. It owns or controls in excess of 170,000 audio tracks and 5,000 hours of audio-visual content including tracks from artists spanning 7 decades from the ‘forties’ to the ‘naughties’. They focus on ‘middle of the road’, nostalgic music by well-known artists from every genre – pop, rock, Reggae, R&B, children’s music, karaoke, instrumental, soul, blues, ambient and even, rap, religious and world music plus comedy, spoken word and a large collection of classical music. They recently acquired the Men & Motors brand and all TV programs from ITV that will be made available on YouTube. The Men & Motors catalogue contains over 300 series of motoring programs presented by the likes of Richard Hammond, John Inverdale and Ginny Buckley plus ‘lads mag’ programs featuring ‘page 3’ and glamour models including Jordan, Jo Guest and Caprice.

EMI Group Archive Trust is situated within one of the world’s largest and most diverse music archives. Their collections cover many aspects of the music industry, dating from its tin-foil origins in 1877 up to 1946. In addition to material relating to their musical heritage, they also preserve artefacts associated with EMI’s achievements in television, radar, and medicine. SEO London, through its partnership with Creative Access, is actively recruiting for roles with creative industry leaders such as Harlequin (UK) Ltd, One Media iP Ltd, and EMI Group Archive Trust.

HARLEQUIN (UK) LIMITED

Start date ASAP

Length of internship 26 weeks

Role Editorial Assistant to Anna Baggaley, Editor

  • Work with the UK Editorial team to provide editorial and administrative support within a busy and creative department to ensure the efficient co-ordination of a number of publishing programmes.
Applicant Requirements 
  • Good interpersonal/communication skills.
  • Passionate about books, specifically women’s fiction.
  • Have a genuine interest in a publishing career, with some knowledge about Harlequin’s publications.
  • Creative flare.
  • Ability to prioritise, multi-task, plan and organise.
  • Excellent spelling and grammar, with attention to detail.
  • Some experience in a publishing environment, and an awareness of commercial (including digital) market is a plus, but not essential.
Academic Requirement Graduate in English Literature or English related subjects
Applicant Responsibilities
  •       Co-ordinate the scheduling of Mills & Boons series i.e Spice, Historical publishing programmes, and books onto HERS (editorial database); create art briefs; cover copy and prelims.
  •       Assist with New Product development – analyse the UK book market by reading commercial women’s fiction books, or all genres, looking for opportunities to use editorial in new commercial ways.
  •       Provide administrative support to the UK Editorial team, some of which include:

o    Creating prelims (1st seven pages of a book e.g. copyright page, foreward, title page, author biography).
o    Creating blurbs (back cover copy).
o    Logging agents manuscript submissions into an excel spread sheet.
o    Updating and circulating the Editorial ‘to do’ list comprising of deadline dates from other departments.
o    Printing manuscripts.
o    Rights checking using HERS.
o    Taking minutes in meetings.
o    Ad hoc scheduling in HERs for other Mills & Boon Series.
o    Collating entry forms and recommendation letters, and other material for publishing industry awards submissions for our authors.
o    Monthly filing of new titles in the Company library (c20-50).
o    Updating the holiday and sickness reports.
o    Liaising with other departments to obtain or give up to date information.
Salary 15,000 per annum (pro-rata)

 

ONE MEDIA iP LTD

Location Pinewood Studios  Pinewood Road, Iver SL0 0NH
Role Junior Creative Technician

  • Work on One Media’s video content and Men & Motors programming (some 3000 episodes form the TV channel).
Applicant Requirements 
  • Sound understanding of current and emerging digital entertainment stores and services.
  • Good communication and team working skills, accuracy and a willingness to work hard.
  • Competent IT skills.
  • Graphic design skills are an advantage but not essential.
  • Full training of the in-house systems will be given.
Academic Requirement Minimum A-level or above
Applicant Responsibilities
  • Creative Technicians are responsible for all areas of preparing the companies audio and visual assets for the digital market.
  • The role at junior level involves ingestion of assets into their in-house systems, creating metadata required for videos on Youtube, research, assisting in the managing of the content on their channels and using the YouTube CMS system to manage assets and claims, social media marketing to promote and increase views of videos and subscriptions to their channels by responding to comments on videos via Facebook, Twitter and Google +, creating compilations and albums and graphic design of artwork.
  • The role ultimately encompasses all the processes necessary to deliver releases to digital stores and services, rights management, client liaison and team management.
Salary 15,000 per annum

 

EMI GROUP ARCHIVE TRUST

Role Assistant to the Heritage Curator for The EMI Group Archive Trust based at EMI Archives

  • Help develop and support a new website and existing social media.
Applicant Requirements 
  • A sharp and creative mind, with the ability to convey complex ideas to a wide range of audiences.
  • Good verbal (clear, concise, and personable) and written communications skills (once shortlisted, you might be required to provide a writing sample).
  • Proven ability to working with social media platforms.
  • Some experience in online/web development and/or management.
  • A self-starter, with the ability to work to deadlines.
  • Desirable to have a knowledge or interest in the history of recorded sound.
Academic Requirement BA or BS preferably in English / History / Journalism / PR
Applicant Responsibilities
  •       Cataloguing, digitising photographs, paperwork and audio, historical research and writing for the Trust’s blog.
  •       Contributing ideas and content to a new web site, including a project to design it.
  •       Managing social media profiles.
  •      Historical research and writing items for the Trust’s blog.
  •      Accessioning and cataloguing collections.*
  •       Supervising researchers and answering email/phone calls when the Curator is out of the office.
  •      Occasionally work evenings and weekends to support the Heritage Curator with community outreach projects and promotion of the Trust.

Applicant Requirements 
  • A sound knowledge of social media monitoring, streamlining techniques and HTML.
  • Knowledge and interest in alternative rock, indie and metal.
  • Basic programming skills and ability to use photoshop, word, Excel and other online tools.
  • Well versed in many music related applications and online sites.
  • Able to learn quickly and work on own initiative.
  • Very good organizational skills with an understanding of basic music business/record company activities.
  • Have an understanding that the music business is a way of life, not just a job.
Academic Requirement None

Applicant Responsibilities
  • Developing brand awareness (and in turn generating sales).
  • Management of existing social media presence and administration.
  • Creating and managing new social media accounts and their retail presence.
  • Populating and writing engaging content that is consistent with the voice of their customers.
  • Updating their websites and band websites with relevant information regularly.
  • Liaising with team members accordingly.
Salary 15,000 per annum
